Reviews
I had gotten this book back in 1997 as a xmas gift for someone and have thought since then that I would like to have a copy myself. It is kinda expensive, or at least you would think so until you see the sheer size and content of this tome. When you look at the info on this book, be sure to look at the size / dimension of it. It does NOT come with a slipcase, it comes in a cardboard case with a handle custom made by Taschen just for this book, it is well made to protect your huge investment, completely down to the printing of just what is inside it.Other reviews have stated seeing down to the molecular level, um, maybe not quite that far, but it does show you the details of each piece down to the details of ALL the current conditions (i.e. cracks and chips) that ARE present in how these painting are at this time.Granted, I myself have never seen any of his work firsthand, but I would have to agree with another reviewer that this will be the closest way other than first hand to actually see them.I've seen others selling this exact book for insane amounts (in the thousands) and if that is any indication as to where this book is heading, might be wise to get one now as all books tend to end at some point. This book may very well go down as a piece of art in it's own right in the future. But damn, it is a beast in the size and weight department, not for the faint. Oh, and they even topped it further for us, the font they use is tiny, especially for the size of this catalog. SO much info and so many suggested reading of others and external sources that if you NEED more information, chances are you will not have to look much further for reference materials.I hope this library of information will find its way into so many homes. It is is my top 5 books I own. Can't wait to get the XXL book on DaVinci so that I can feel as though I have a matching set.If you haven't guessed, I love this book and I WOULD suggest it to anyone who loves art or likes Michelangelo.
