Reviews
I am the type of person who likes to go into a store with some idea of what is available and what qualities to look for. I am also the kind of person who likes to get the best I can afford at the moment in the hope that it will last longer and not need replacement or further expense. I tend to buy to keep. It is important to me to know what differentiates a "good" product from a "better" or "best" product or to know when it's important to spend a little extra and when it's not. Now that I do the majority of my purchasing online and don't get to "feel" products or talk to a salesman, it is even more important to be knowledgeable about what I'm purchasing. There is so much available in terms of lenses, filters, tripods, camera bags--you name it, that it's impossible to have it all. How to prioritize for MY particular needs and budget requires guidance and that is what I consider this book's main strength: for each category of product it gives a good general overview of the "what's" and "why's:, then more specific descriptions of the specific products available, why you (might) need it and what to look for when (and if) you decide to buy one. This book gives me the basic orientation on what is available for my camera and what it can be expected to do; what qualities to look for when purchasing; the advantages/disadvantages of each type of item; and informs me about products I didn't know I wanted or didn't know existed. I can do searches with the appropriate key words and, look through Amazon product reviews and other products reviews elsewhere on the web, I can buy with confidence (or at least put specific products on my Wish List for future purchase).
